Private Housing

Private Housing has been a long standing tradition at USGA championships, and the U.S. Amateur is no exception. It is a unique opportunity for you as a member of the local community to share first hand in the excitement and to embrace the U.S. Amateur championship on a very personal basis. In the past, many friendships have been forged between players and host families. This is a fabulous opportunity to exhibit the warm hospitality of the Midwest. If you have the resources and the time to commit, this is an opportunity you will not want to miss.

Players could be arriving as early as August 18. Player Registration is scheduled for August 19th and practice rounds are scheduled for August 20 and 21 at both Blue Mound Golf and Country Club and Erin Hills. The first two rounds of stroke play will be played August 22 and 23 over both courses. Following stroke play and a probable playoff, the field will be cut to sixty four players who will begin match play at Erin Hills on August 24. Your 2011 U.S. Amateur Champion will be decided after all other players have been eliminated and the prevailing two players have played a scheduled 36 hole match on August 28.

Qualifications for host families are outlined below:

  • The host family should be prepared to host their player for the entire championship including practice rounds (August 18 – August 28). While it is somewhat uncommon, some players eliminated early, may wish to stay throughout the championship.
  • For many players, this may be the only time they will play in the U.S. Amateur. Others may go on to future championships and ultimately one of the professional tours. As is true for all athletes, rest is key to their performance. It is important that the accommodations allow some privacy. Each player will need his own bed but not necessarily his own room with accompanying bathroom facilities.
  • The demographic of the field for the U.S. Amateur will include a number of very young players who are not able to rent a car. In the event the player does not have his own transportation, host families will be responsible for transportation to and from the golf courses and the Players’ Dinner on Sunday, August 21 at the Marriott Milwaukee West (in Waukesha). Host families are encouraged to pick up their player upon arrival at Mitchell Airport.

Breakfast and lunch will be available for all players, caddies and family members at Blue Mound Golf and Country Club and at Erin Hills. There are no scheduled evening meals with the exception of the Players’ Dinner on Sunday, August 21. Host families are expected to assume all costs associated with Private Housing. Players are NOT to be charged a fee for Private Housing.

Hosting Progression:

  1. Complete the Private Housing Application. Submit electronically.
  2. A successful background check on host family members (aged 16 and older) by local authorities.
  3. An in-home visit will be conducted by Private Housing Committee personnel.
  4. Read and sign Private Housing Agreement.
  5. Host family and guest will be matched in early August 2011.
  6. Host family and guest will be notified by Housing committee of housing assignments in early August.
  7. Host family should contact guest and exchange travel plans.

As our way of thanking you for hosting a player, we would like to offer you two (2) complimentary rounds of golf at the site of the 2017 U.S. Open – Erin Hills (at approved times).

Note: To avoid a situation where the player might feel uncomfortable or pressured to use a host family member as a caddie, host families may not have a family member caddie for a player staying with that family.
